Who does not love a new hat? Especially when Winter is coming (or at least I hope so … still 20 °C around here 😞).
Testknitting
I volunteered to testknit Même les anges tricotent newest pattern, the Louise Hat, a few weeks ago. She’s so sweet and her hat is really pretty and clever, I could not resist even if it was not reasonable at all!
Choosing colours has been a bit tricky at first. I decided to use one of my handspun as the main colours and to pair it with some stash yarns. Well, let me say that swatching is key!
I truly wanted to use the yellow alpaca yarn. But I think we’ll all agree that it does not work that great with my handspun.
I had such a blast knitting this little hat! As I said, it’s pretty clever with all the decreases strategically placed to enhance the leaf pattern which please my inner align-everything-freak. Due to my own deadlines, I started a few days after most the testers. And almost all the typos and mistakes were already caught. For once, I was able to knit without over thinking it which felt so good!
And you the best part? It fits my crazy small head!
The Louise Hat pattern is now available on Ravelry, both in French and English (II tested the English version).
Notes and mods
The pattern is clear and well written with a detailed Glossary. I would have loved more info about the gauges as I was looking for yarn replacements but everything worked out perfectly at the end. Chart lovers, be careful though, the stitch pattern is only available in the written format.
Only two small tweaks (as it’s a test!):
- I used 3.25 mm needles instead of 3.50m as I’m a loose knitter with a really small head.
- I decided to test the removable pompom method explained by Hunter Hammersten. So easy and pretty simple! I’m definitively convinced!
